The new edition of the FACE – Façade Architecture, Construction and Engineering course officially began on 7 October 2025 in Bolzano, with Unit 1: Multidisciplinary Façade Physics.

Over four days, participants from around the world, ranging from Italy, to Lithuania, from Turkey to India, explored the complex relationship between façade design, building physics, and performance. The unit combined lectures, workshops, site visits, and collaborative activities, offering a dynamic and hands-on learning experience.

The lectures included:

  • A keynote by Annalisa Andaloro, Eurac Research former FACE director, and a welcome by course coordinator Francesco Isaia, senior researcher at Eurac Research

  • Lectures on daylight, acoustics, ventilation, and simulation tools by experts from Eurac Research and from international institutions

  • A hands-on workshop on façade measurements and data analysis led by Giuseppe de Michele (Eurac Research)

  • A site visit to the new Engineering Faculty building and Building Physics Laboratories at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, thanks to Giovanni Pernigotto (Free University of Bozen-Bolzano)

  • A lively “circular aperitivo” hosted by Martino Gubert, researcher at Eurac Research, connecting the session to the broader themes of sustainability and circularity

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the tutors who contributed their time, knowledge, and passion to this first unit!

To name all: Alberto Speroni (University of Milano) , Eleonora Brembilla (TU Delft), Simone Torresin (University of Trento), and from Eurac Research, Alexandra Troi, Ingrid Demanega, Annamaria Belleri, Giuseppe De Michele, Riccardo Gazzin, Martino Gubert, Annalisa Andaloro, Francesco Isaia, and Roberto Lollini.

We also thank our sponsors and partner: Alpewa, PICHLER projects, WICONA, Domal, Arup, and glassAdvisor, for supporting this learning journey and helping advance façade innovation!

Next stop: Milano, where Unit 2 will focus on digital tools and design strategies for façade systems.
