Miren Juaristi Gutierrez
Eurac Research
Institute for Renewable Energy
Miren is a PhD Architect, having graduated in May 2016 from the School of Architecture at the University of Navarra. She completed her doctorate within the “Environmental & Technological Design in Architecture” program (2016/09-2020/08) at the University of Navarra, Spain, with a thesis entitled “Adaptive Opaque Facades: a performance-based design method.” Her PhD journey was enriched by an international environment, including participation in the COST ACTION TU1403-Adaptive Facade Network. This opportunity allowed her to undertake a “Short Term Scientific Mission” at the Architectural Facades & Products Research Group [AF&P] of the Technical University of Delft (2017/09-2017/12, The Netherlands). Additionally, she was a guest researcher at the Technology Energy Building and Environment [TEBE] Research group of Politecnico di Torino (2018/12-2019/12, Italy).
In October 2020, Miren began a postdoctoral position at Eurac Research in Bolzano, Italy, within the "Energy Efficient Buildings" group, specifically within the "Building Envelope Technologies" research area. Since February 2023, she has been coordinating the EU HEU ZERAF project, funded by the European Innovation Council Pathfinder (GA n. 101098490). As of January 2025, Miren is responsible for the "Building Envelope Technologies" research area, overseeing a team of around 13 people. Their research and innovation activities related to building facades focus on: (1) performance characterization of advanced and complex technologies, (2) promoting circularity, (3) industrialized building envelopes for the renovation, densification, and reconstruction of EU buildings, and (4) developing adaptive-active building.
